THIS fairytale I know. It’s the Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen as illustrated by Elenore Abbott. The gist of the fairytale is an evil queen has turned the princess’s eleven brothers into swans and she can cure them if she knits them all coats (I think it’s coats) and never smiles or says a word for the whole duration.
Long story short, she nearly gets burnt at the stake.
Had to make sure I wasn’t conflating that with the story of Brother and Sister, where the brother is turned into a deer.
